Umilys is a landscape architecture studio designing and building contemporary gardens, terraces and outdoor environments, fully integrating living systems and biodiversity.
We do not simply design outdoor spaces. We build ecosystems.
Each project is conceived as a living structure: the interaction between soil, vegetation layers, water, light, usage and time.
The Team
A small, multidisciplinary studio where landscape and interior design meet — and where every garden is both drawn and built under one roof. Our backgrounds are deliberately complementary: scientific rigour, artistic instinct, and hands-on craft.
Margaux - Landscape Architect
State-certified landscape designer from the École nationale supérieure de paysage de Versailles-Marseille — the historic French school of landscape — with a European master (EMILA) earned in Amsterdam and Barcelona. Her approach is sensory, almost poetic: she shapes space through feeling as much as through plan. Her realised work includes the garden Le Méduse in Juan-les-Pins. She brings the artistic gesture — drawing, model-making — and a genuine love of the field.
Lorenzo del Marmol - Founder
Founder of the studio, Lorenzo came to landscape from an unusual angle — and that's exactly where his edge lies. A graduate of ICHEC & Solvay Brussels School with certifications in management, innovation and a range of design trainings, he spent years as an entrepreneur in digital design, technology and Lean Six Sigma. That background — business, innovation, design, process — is the operational backbone of the studio: gardens that are not only beautiful, but delivered with method and a single standard of quality.
Then came the obsession. For five years he devoured dozens of books on the great landscape designers, on drawing, plants and deeper trends, visited countless gardens, and tested his ideas across his own gardens before launching. He likes to point out that several of the finest landscape designers never went to landscape school — Louis Benech (a law degree, then learning the trade at Hillier nurseries), Belgium's Jacques Wirtz (trained in horticulture, his practice built door to door), Piet Oudolf (self-taught creator of New York's High Line) — all learned closest to the soil. His conviction: a good landscape designer draws, but also knows how to execute on the ground. He'll be your first point of contact.
Tala - Landscape Architect
Architect and landscape designer, holder of an MSc in Sustainable Architecture and Landscape Design from the Politecnico di Milano, following architectural studies at the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts in Beirut. Trilingual (English, French, Arabic), she has designed ecological parks in Italy and brings a scientific edge to the living world — 3D modelling, GIS (QGIS) and thermal-comfort simulation with ENVI-met. Her focus: sustainability, biodiversity and inclusive, people-first design.
Craft, in-house
Beyond design, the studio brings together the people who make it real. Interior architects handle interiors, furniture selection, finishes and materials, so the indoors and the garden speak the same language. Gardeners and horticulturists lead planting, maintenance and plant care year after year. Landscape masons build the bones of the garden — terraces, paths, low walls, lighting and timber structures. Design and build, under one roof.

At Umilys, every garden is designed as an immersive experience where vegetation interacts with lifestyle, architecture and atmosphere.
Our mission goes beyond aesthetics.
We strive to generate a positive environmental impact by rehabilitating degraded or mineral spaces. In 2024 alone, we planted more than 12,000 plants, contributing to soil enrichment, pollination and habitat creation for local fauna.

"Guided by Beauty" isn't a tagline we added afterwards — it's how we work. A living garden cannot be controlled; it can only be guided. Our role is not to impose a form on nature, but to reveal the one a place already holds within it.
In practice, every decision — the line of a path, the choice of a perennial, the angle of a light, the setting of a stone — answers the same question: does it serve the beauty and balance of the whole? Beauty becomes our compass, from the first sketch to the last seasonal pruning..
Atmosphere & Plant Compositions
Through our network of specialized growers, we select high-quality plants adapted to the Belgian climate.
Our plant compositions are tested in our experimental garden in La Hulpe, established in 2018. This living laboratory allows us to study plant resilience, seasonal structure and long-term spatial dynamics across more than 6,000 m².
A garden is not defined by its first year.
