Outdoor Furniture & Living
Gardens are for living, not just looking.
Living in the garden, not just landscaping it.
A terrace isn’t a surface — it’s
a room under the open sky. Studio Umilys, the design office of Vert Val SRL (La
Hulpe, Brabant Wallon, Belgium), treats furniture and structural elements as an
integral part of the landscape, on the same level as planting and perspective.
Thinking the space before the furniture.
Choosing outdoor furniture is, first of all, a design question: how people move through the space, where they sit, how the flows are organised, how the volumes balance out. Furniture should settle into the landscape without overpowering it — respecting the tones, colours and materials already there. It’s interior architecture, applied to the outdoors.
Landscape architects — and an interior designer
Our strength lies in this dual expertise. Our landscape architects shape the garden; our interior designer carries the transition between inside and out, so the two worlds answer each other. Together they compose a coherent place where light, materials and uses flow from one space to the next.
Our craft: curation, not selling
The choice of outdoor furniture is overwhelming — and that’s where we come in. Working from the brief you entrust to us, we study the space and curate: selecting, from a wide range of Belgian and international brands, the pieces that best suit your place and budget — down to bespoke work when needed. We work with private clients as well as hotels, restaurants, guest houses and holiday homes.
Frequently asked questions
Do you have an outdoor furniture showroom?
We don’t have a dedicated furniture showroom. Our office in La Hulpe has a garden showroom with pots and basic furniture, but we work project by project: furniture is selected bespoke for each scheme.
What does your support actually involve?
Our craft isn’t selling a piece of furniture — it’s curation. You entrust us with a brief; we study the space, the circulation and the balance of volumes, then select the furniture and planting that fit the place, in keeping with its existing tones and materials.
Why an interior designer in a landscape office?
Because the outdoors deserves the same care as an interior. Our landscape architects shape the garden, our interior designer handles the transition between inside and out — for one coherent whole, from the living room to the terrace.
Do you work with hospitality professionals?
Yes. Beyond private clients, we design the outdoor spaces of hotels, restaurants, guest houses and holiday homes — from brand furniture to bespoke work (exterior joinery, terraces, built-in seating).
