HOSPITALITY &

 WELCOMING SPACES

Landscape designer for restaurants, hotels and commercial venues

The exterior is not a backdrop.

It is the first impression, the atmosphere remembered, the moment shared.

Studio Umilys designs the outdoor environments of restaurants, hotels, bars, cafés and commercial venues. Terraces, gardens, courtyards, rooftops, façades — each threshold is conceived as a direct extension of the venue's identity, never as decorative overlay.

An integrated vision, from landscape to furniture

A coherent welcoming space cannot be built by stacking separate contractors.

Our studio supports restaurateurs, hoteliers and retail owners across the entire outdoor chain: landscape design, plant structures, indoor-outdoor transitions, and curation of outdoor furniture through our network of Belgian and international editors.

This integrated approach delivers visual and atmospheric coherence that separate vendors cannot achieve. One studio, one vision, a place that holds together.

When branding meets landscape

For hospitality, gastronomy and retail brands, the outdoor space has become a strategic asset.

The design of a restaurant terrace, the layout of a hotel courtyard, or the planting of a boutique entrance extends brand identity, increases average dwell time, fuels guest-generated content, and differentiates the venue in a saturated market.

Our approach is built around:

  • Coherence between brand identity, architecture and landscape
  • Structural planting compositions, legible across all seasons
  • Microclimates, natural shading, and sensory transitions
  • Coordinated outdoor furniture selection through partner editors
  • Resilient planting strategies suited to professional maintenance

An investment that compounds

A carefully designed outdoor space is not a cost.

It is an asset that increases the perceived quality of the venue, the average dwell time, the volume of guest photographs shared, and the depth of returning reviews. The landscape becomes a signature, a reason to come back, and a differentiator in an industry where experience matters more than product.

Frequently asked questions

**Which types of venues do you work with?**

Studio Umilys designs the outdoor environments of restaurants, hotels, bars, cafés, brasseries, guesthouses, shops and showrooms. Each project is treated as a singular creation, anchored in the identity of the venue and its location.

**Do you only design landscapes, or also select outdoor furniture?**

Both. Our studio handles the complete landscape design — planting structure, ground, light, microclimates — and supports our clients in selecting outdoor furniture through our network of Belgian and international editors. One point of contact for full coherence between branding, landscape and furniture.

**What does an outdoor designer or landscape architect do for a hospitality venue?**

A landscape designer for hospitality conceives the exterior spaces of a venue — terraces, gardens, courtyards, planted façades — integrating the building's architecture, the brand identity, and the guest experience. Studio Umilys practises this discipline at the intersection of landscape architecture and experience design.

**Do you work in Brussels and Brabant Wallon?**

Yes. Studio Umilys is based in La Hulpe and operates in Brussels, Brabant Wallon, Brabant Flemish, and on selected projects elsewhere in Belgium and internationally.

**How long does a hospitality outdoor project take?**

From initial consultation to delivery, a typical project takes 3 to 9 months depending on scope. The design phase (sketch, plans, plant and furniture selection) usually requires 4 to 8 weeks. Construction is scheduled to fit the venue's operating calendar.
